Data Backup and Recovery Strategies

Objective:
Develop a plan for data backup and recovery to safeguard critical information during disruptions.

Key Concepts:

  • The importance of data as a critical asset.

  • Types of data to be backed up and their storage.

  • Recovery time objectives (RTO) for data restoration.

Assignment:

  1. Review Previous Work: Reflect on the Crisis Management Team (CMT) formation and procedures from Week 7.

  2. Identify Critical Data: Identify the critical data types and information that your organization must protect. This may include customer data, financial records, operational data, and more.

  3. Data Backup Plan: Develop a plan for regular data backups. Consider the following:

    • What data will be backed up?

    • How frequently will backups be performed?

    • Where will backups be stored securely?

    • Who will be responsible for managing backups?

  4. Recovery Time Objectives (RTO): Determine the acceptable downtime for each critical data type. What is the maximum allowable time for data restoration in case of a disruption?

  5. Test Data Recovery: Consider conducting a test to ensure that data recovery procedures are effective. Document the results of the test.

  6. Submission: Please submit your data backup and recovery plan, including critical data types and recovery time objectives, via email by [Insert Submission Deadline].
